5 Tips for a Healthier Thanksgiving

Feel less anxious about the approaching holiday season with these 5 tips!

A turkey runningI’ll be the first to say it: I love Thanksgiving dinner. I love the turkey, the stuffing, the gravy, but most of all I love the pumpkin pie. With my intense infatuation with all of the aforementioned foods, none of which are particularly healthy for me, especially if eaten in excess and covered in gravy, I do get a little nervous about over-indulging on this particular holiday. What’s more, Thanksgiving marks the official start to holiday season, which can be a daunting time for anyone who would like to stay in shape.

Below are 5 tips on how to enjoy Thanksgiving weekend, without the guilt, anxiety, or the possibility of losing everything you’ve worked (out) for.

5 Healthy Thanksgiving Dinner Tips:

  1. Drink plenty of water. We often tend to overeat when we confuse signs of thirst with signs of hunger. Our bodies send out the same signal for both. So, before you sit down for the big dinner, make sure you’re well hydrated.
  2. Stay away from alcohol. I would much rather have gravy and a piece of pie than that second or third glass of wine; wouldn’t you?
  3. Include PGX. If overeating is something you’re worried about, try taking PGX before sitting down for your Thanksgiving dinner to help you feel fuller faster.
  4. Continue to be active. Take a break from work this weekend, not exercise.
  5. If you choose to splurge, do it on the things you don’t get to enjoy year-round! Sure you could load up your plate with buttery mashed potatoes, but why do that when you can have them anytime? Instead, take portions of “holiday food” like stuffing. And be sure to savor the foods you do splurge on. 🙂
